Pink Ribbon Walk Raises $40,000 for Space Coast Cancer Foundation
 
 
PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The Port Canaveral Association hosted their 3rd Annual Pink Ribbon Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness on October 22. Over 500 walkers participated in the 5K walk raising $40,000. Proceeds from the event were donated to Space Coast Cancer Foundation in an effort to support local cancer patients. Funds raised will help cancer patients and their caregivers with the financial and emotional demands that are associated with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. For more information on Space Coast Cancer Foundation, please call 321.264.5504. 
The Port Canaveral Association is a non-profit whose mission is to promote the businesses in Port Canaveral and as a destination in Brevard. “We are so proud of the outcome from this years walk and are really glad that we can help cancer patients in Brevard county by donating the proceeds to the Space Coast Cancer Foundation,” said Vonda Welborn, Pink Ribbon Walk chairman.

Locals Donate in Support of Cancer Patients
 
TITUSVILLE, FL – Recently, Space Coast Cancer Foundation received a $5,000 donation from local businesswoman Susan Moore to support local cancer patients. Moore is the President/CEO of Beach Organics ™Skin Care in Cocoa, a maker and distributor of handcrafted soaps, bath salts, lotions and beach-inspired beauty products, all made from natural, organic ingredients. For more information on their products, please visit www.beachorganicskincare.com. “I appreciate the great work that Space Coast Cancer Foundation does for cancer patients especially when they need it the most”, says Moore. 
 
Also, Viera artist Carl McGrady recently made a contribution of talent by donating his original painting of a Yellow Daffodil to Space Coast Cancer Foundation with the intention of auctioning it off at the 6th Annual Daffodil Gala scheduled for August 18, 2012. In addition to the painting, McGrady fabricated and packaged 100 Daffodil notecard sets of 5, as well as, 100 poster prints (11” x 17”) for Space Coast Cancer Foundation to sell. The notecard sets and prints are $10.00 each and can be purchased at any Space Coast Cancer Center offices in Titusville, Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach and Viera. “They took care of a friend and this is my way of showing gratitude for the work they do”, states McGrady. Space Coast Cancer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was established in May 2006. The mission is to assist cancer patients and their caregivers in our community with financial and emotional demands that are associated with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The foundation provides direct financial assistance to fund transportation, pain medication, anti-nausea medication and utilities. In addition, the foundation and board of directors supports local oncology education and research.

5th Annual Daffodil Gala Raises Over $52,000
for Local Cancer Patients
Proceeds benefit Space Coast Cancer Foundation’s Patient Transport Van
 
More than 240 people attended Space Coast Cancer Foundation’s 5th Annual Daffodil Gala, presented by Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Holiday Inn-Viera. The event honored Kathy Skalet and Alice Alderman as Volunteers of the Year and Dawn Faust as Cancer Survivor of the year. The annual event also included a silent auction, live music and dancing.
 
The $52,000 in net proceeds funds the purchase, maintenance and operational costs for a patient transport van. This service will ensure that patients in need will have a ride to and from their appointments.

3rd Annual Pink Ribbon Walk Benefits Space Coast Cancer Foundation

 

PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The Port Canaveral Association will host their third annual Pink Ribbon Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness on Saturday, Oct. 22. All proceeds from this years walk will benefit the Space Coast Cancer Foundation.

This 5K noncompetitive walk to raise money and awareness for breast cancer will circle Port Canaveral, and its finish will kick start the Port Fest weekend. Registration for the 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the walk starting at 9:00 a.m. The event staging area is located between Rusty’s and Fishlips restaurant on Glen Cheek Drive in the Cove area of Port Canaveral. A recognitions and awards ceremony will recognize survivors, teams with most walkers and teams with most donations.

The Port Canaveral Association is a non-profit whose mission is to promote the businesses in Port Canaveral and as a destination in Brevard. “We are excited for this years walk and are really looking forward to helping cancer patients in Brevard county by donating the proceeds to the Space Coast Cancer Foundation,” said Vonda Welborn, event chairman.

Space Shuttle Teddy Bear Sales Benefit Space Coast Cancer Foundation

Foundation President Linda Bradley Raises Over $3,000 for Local Cancer Patients

 

TITUSVILLE, FL - Brevard county resident Linda Bradley, President, Space Coast Cancer Foundation raised $3,050 by selling over 300 Space Shuttle Teddy Bears commemorating Mission STS 135. Each bear is outfitted in an orange jumpsuit with the official NASA patch identical to ones that the astronauts wore during the mission.  

Ms. Bradley sold the bears leading up to the final launch and had donated all of the sales to the Space Coast Cancer Foundation.  Shuttle Bears are still available for $10 each by calling the Foundation office at 855.894.HOPE(4673), x3500

Celebration of Life Event Hosted by Space Coast Cancer Center

 

Space Coast Cancer Center is hosting a free Celebration of Life event for cancer survivors on Saturday, June 4, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Titusville office located at 490 N. Space Coast Cancer Center Lecture Series Continues on June 23

 Recent Advances in the Treatment of Leukemia and Lymphoma by Richard M. Levine, MD

 

Richard Levine, MD, a Medical Oncologist with Space Coast Cancer Center, will be the speaker for a free lecture, “Recent Advances in the Treatment of Leukemia and Lymphoma”.  The presentation will be on Thursday, June 23 from 10:30 am to noon at One Senior Place, 8085 Spyglass Hill Road, Viera, FL 32940.  A complimentary lunch will be provided following the event. Dr. Levine is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Indiana University and graduated with a combined degree from Indiana University School of Medicine (MS Pharmacology, MD).  He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and completed his medical oncology training at the National Cancer Institute (NIH), where he was Chief Fellow.  Dr. Levine is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.  Dr. Levine is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Brevard County Medical Society, Florida Medical Association, and the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (Past-President).  He is the Medical Director of the Cancer Program at Viera Hospital and Cape Canaveral Hospital, as well as being on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) National Quality of Care Committee.

Moffitt Cancer Center Awards Local with Cancer Survivorship Award

Linda Bradley honored with Annual Award at Miles for Moffitt Event

 

Brevard county resident Linda Bradley, President, Space Coast Cancer Foundation was recognized with the Priscilla Mack Survivorship Award presented at the Miles for Moffitt event in Tampa on Saturday, May 14, 2011. 

Bradley was given the award because of her inspiration and advocacy as a cancer survivor.  This award is given annually to a cancer survivor who exhibits outstanding commitment in the fight against cancer by inspiring others who have been diagnosed with cancer and who also works tirelessly in fundraising efforts in cancer research and education. Bradley is a lymphoma survivor and besides participating in Miles for Moffitt as a team leader she has worked tirelessly in her efforts to help others with cancer since her retirement from NASA.
